I love the summer colors.
I’ve been slacking off in my writing lately. I just can’t be motivated enough to come up with posts regularly. Fortunately, this somewhat lazy preoccupation doesn’t extend to my running. Summer is finally here, well, it started like a month ago. And with that comes record-breaking temperatures that I don’t find comfortable when I run later in the day. But I find ways to avoid the heat so I still get to enjoy the “high”.
I don’t like to stay out in the sun too much and “bake”. I’ve been asked how come I’m not used to the heat when I come from a tropical country. The thing is, where I came from, we don’t stay outside for the heck of it or to get tan, we stay out because its part of our daily life.
I have nothing against summer. I like it and it always reminds me of home. What I love most about it is I get to run early in the morning ( if you consider 6 AM early enough ) without getting too cold and marvel at the sunrise—always the highlight of my run.
Lately, I’ve been running regularly a few times a week. I like to make the most of every “summery” day while I still can. I like to watch the sun-dappled treetops; the clear blue sky and most of all, the sun as it slowly glides up on the horizon. On one occasion, someone asked me if I’m training for something. I was like, no. Apparently, going for a run early in the morning is not “normal”. Oh, well.
The only downside of running in the morning is I have to get up early. And I’m very strict about being out the door at 6 AM so it means I should be up earlier than 6 AM. Usually, I wake up at 5 AM , if I do decide to go out for a short run, gives me plenty of time to change my mind and go back to sleep.
There are days though that I rather sleep in but most of the time, I can’t wait to get out of bed and be outside. Besides, I always feel good after a short run so its worth it.
Anyway, before I ramble on and on, I’d better stop and get back on my reading. Yes, I read too.
Happy running and many more “summery” runs to come.
